Setting Up Your GPS Tracker

You can set the GPS Tracker up remotely from your mobile phone
Setting up your GPS Tracker will take a few minutes. Included in the box is a quick-start guide, which will walk through the basic steps to activating the pre-installed SIM. You can then start receiving reply location texts to your mobile phone.
It's easy to get set up - but you will have to read the included guide and follow a few simple steps. We provide clear and concise information so you can't go wrong. Alongside the quick-start guide you'll find the manual, giving you all the details you need to set up various functions. There's also an online portal with further details, helpful visual tutorial videos, tips, best-practice and trouble-shooting - heaps of information and help to ensure you make the most of it.
But if you do get stuck, we're also a quick email or phone call away and are more than happy to help.
Setting Up Your GPS Tracker - What's Involved
Activate the pre-installed SIM
Your welcome sheet will walk you step-by-step through activating the pre-installed free GPS Tracker SIM - which takes a few minutes. You'll register your own online account with the SIM network, add your £10 credit (and get £5 free!), which you then look after on your own (as you would with a mobile phone - the GPS Tracker is cheap to run). You can also set it to auto-topup if the credit is running low. If you want to install your own SIM instead, you'll find instructions for doing that too. You'll then have the unique phone number for the GPS Tracker, to be able to send and receive texts and calls.
Set-up the alert numbers for SOS, wander alerts & more
This is all done via text message, from your mobile phone. You can text certain commands to program in any optional designated numbers (e.g. to receive alerts, or SOS texts/calls). The helpful manual contains a quick-start guide to get locating immediately, then has more detail about the various optional functions (e.g. wandering or fall alerts) if you need them. It's useful to set at least one number into the device, which can then receive alerts if the battery is running low (less than 15%). You can set up to five different numbers to share responsibility with family or other carers.
The person being tracked doesn't have to do anything
- The GPS Tracker responds automatically to map location request texts - the person with the device won't even know it's locating or texting out.
- If you call the device - it will answer automatically after buzzing - they don't need to press any buttons.
- They don't need to do anything except carry the device
"We have received the dementia tracker and set it up successfully. Your instructions are very clear thank you."
After Setting Up - Maintaining Your GPS Tracker
Charging the Battery
Our Stray Star GPS Dementia Tracker comes with an optional charging cradle for easier charging, or you can simply plug the enclosed USB lead directly into the side (under a waterproofing rubber seal). It takes about 3-5 hours to charge, but will arrive with about 50-70% battery for you to get started. Battery life lasts for about 3-7 days depending on which battery mode is used.
Keeping Your SIM Credit Topped Up (can be auto-renewed)
You will register your own online account when activating the pre-installed SIM. You can log in to check your remaining credit at any time. When activating the SIM, you can tick a box to select auto-renewal, where it will top up with £10 of credit whenever it drops below £2 (limited to three top-ups a month). If you are using the £6 per month inclusive goodybag option (which is more than enough for even heavy usage) then it will automatically renew each month. You can always change these options at any time.
