Troubleshooting: Children’s GPS Tracker


Hardware issues

As mentioned on the product page and throughout the site – you need a SIM card inside of the tracker because they function like mini mobile phones. More details can be found here. You can order a free SIM from here.
[/toggle] [toggle title=”On the plug charger, the green light won’t stay on”]

The green light shows when the charger is charging the GPS Tracker. If the green light goes out, then it means the tracker is fully charged. Sometimes, the USB connection might not be inserted properly, so give the lead a bit of a wiggle in the plug adapter just to make sure. Similarly, make sure the other end is firmly placed into the side of the GPS Tracker.

If you’ve sent WHERE# and you aren’t getting a location, there could be a number of reasons.

1) If you aren’t get any text back, then either the Tracker is turned off, GPRS is switched on, or you haven’t successfully set up the mobile phone you are using as an authorised number. See page 4 of the manual to set the authorised numbers.

2) The Tracker might not have been able to lock onto the GPS satellites. This can be because its indoors, there is some kind of interference, or it hasn’t been switched on long enough. For example, some people switch it on then immediately do a location request – you must give it a few minutes first to find the satellites from a cold switch-on.

Usage Issues

You use your own mobile phone (cell phone) to send text messages to the tracker. That is, the SIM number inside the tracker. The text messages “program” the tracker to do various things. So for example, if you send the text message “WHERE#” from your mobile phone to the tracker’s phone number, then the tracker will automatically reply to you with the location link.

a) make sure you are sending the command in the right format – using capital letters, commas and # symbols where appropriate.
b) make sure you have set up the mobile phone you are using as an authorised number. This is explained in more detail in page 4 of the manual.
c) make sure the tracker is switched on.
e) are you using a 3G network SIM in the tracker? If so, try a different SIM (e.g. in the UK, GiffGaff, Orange, Tesco Mobile, Vodafone etc).
[/toggle] [toggle title=”When I put the coordinates into Google Maps, I get the wrong location”]

This is likely to just be an error with the numbers. If one digit is wrong, then the location will be very inaccurate.

Make sure you put a minus sign before the latitude or longitude, if appropriate, depending on the coordinate response you get back from your tracker. Follow the example in the manual.
[/toggle] [toggle title=”Can I change the ring tone?”]

Yes. Text RING,ring parameter# to the tracker.

Ring parameter range: 1-10

For example: RING, 2# will select the second ring as the incoming ring tone.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Can I set it to vibrate or go on silent?”]

Yes. There are three ringtone modes: Ring/Vibrate/Silent. Press the buttons 4+SOS to change them in turn.

Press 4 at the same time as SOS (within 3 seconds) when the device is in ring mode, and the device will go into vibrate mode. Press the combined buttons again, and the device will go into silent mode.

Yes. Text FACTORY# to the tracker to reset to the factory default settings.
